Nineteen-inch direct-view monochrome television picture tube with electrostatic focusing, magnetic deflection, and an aluminized P4 screen. Manufacturer documentation places it in the high-voltage picture-tube family used for bright, high-contrast receiver display.
The 19AUP4 is a 19-inch direct-viewed, rectangular glass television picture tube. It features electrostatic focusing, magnetic deflection, and an aluminized screen. The tube is designed with a bonded shield safety plate and does not require an ion trap.
The 19AUP4 is constructed using the J149C glass bulb and incorporates a spherical faceplate. A key safety and optical feature is the FP159B safety plate, which consists of a gray filter glass safety plate laminated directly to the face of the tube to form a bonded shield. This assembly provides a light transmittance of approximately 44%. To improve viewing quality under ambient light, the external surface of the safety plate is treated to reduce specular reflection.
The screen utilizes an aluminized P4 phosphor, which produces white fluorescence with short-to-medium persistence. Deflection is achieved magnetically, featuring a 114° diagonal deflection angle (102° horizontal and 86° vertical). The tube does not utilize an ion trap. An external conductive coating is applied to the envelope and must be grounded during operation. The total weight of the tube assembly is approximately 18.5 lbs.
The 19AUP4 is equipped with a B7-208 base and uses the 8HR basing configuration. The high-voltage anode connection is made via a recessed small cavity cap (J1-21).
The heater is designed for a nominal voltage of 6.3 V and draws a current of 0.60 A ± 5%. It features a controlled heater warm-up time of 11 seconds.
The electrical connections for the 8HR base are assigned as follows:
| Pin | Connection |
|---|---|
| Pin 1 | Heater (H) |
| Pin 2 | Grid No. 1 (G1) |
| Pin 3 | Grid No. 2 (G2) |
| Pin 4 | Grid No. 4 / Focusing Electrode (G4) |
| Pin 6 | Grid No. 1 (G1) |
| Pin 7 | Cathode (K) |
| Pin 8 | Heater (H) |
| Cap | Anode (A) |
The approximate direct interelectrode capacitances of the 19AUP4 are:
The capacitance between the external conductive coating and the internal anode serves as a filter capacitor when the coating is properly grounded.
The 19AUP4 can be operated in either Grid Drive Service or Cathode Drive Service. The operating limits and typical characteristics differ depending on the chosen drive configuration.
The following maximum ratings are established under the Design-Maximum System:
| Parameter | Grid Drive Service | Cathode Drive Service |
|---|---|---|
| Anode Voltage | 20,000 V dc | 20,000 V dc |
| Grid No. 4 Voltage (Focusing Electrode) | -550 to +1100 V dc | -400 to +1250 V dc |
| Grid No. 2 Voltage | 550 V dc | 700 V dc |
| Grid No. 1 / Cathode Negative Bias Value | 155 V dc (G1) | 0 V dc (K) |
| Grid No. 1 / Cathode Negative Peak Value | 220 V (G1) | 2 V (K) |
| Grid No. 1 / Cathode Positive Bias Value | 0 V dc (G1) | 155 V dc (K) |
| Grid No. 1 / Cathode Positive Peak Value | 2 V (G1) | 220 V (K) |
Under both service types, the peak heater-cathode voltage limits are:
Typical operating values are specified at an anode voltage of 16,000 V dc:
| Parameter | Grid Drive Service | Cathode Drive Service |
|---|---|---|
| Anode Voltage | 16,000 V dc | 16,000 V dc |
| Grid No. 4 Voltage for Focus | 0 to 400 V dc | 0 to 400 V dc |
| Grid No. 2 Voltage | 400 V dc | 400 V dc |
| Cutoff Voltage | -46 to -94 V dc (G1) | 42 to 78 V dc (K) |
The maximum allowable resistance in the Grid No. 1 circuit is 1.5 Megohms.
The 19AUP4 is a 19-inch rectangular glass television picture tube featuring electrostatic focus and 114° magnetic deflection. It is characterized by an aluminized P4 white phosphor screen, a laminated safety plate with 44% light transmittance, and a 6.3 V, 0.60 A heater with an 11-second warm-up time. Operating under either Grid Drive or Cathode Drive service, the tube supports anode voltages up to 20,000 V dc and requires grounding of its external conductive coating.
