Voltage Pentode - Sharp Cutoff (single) ·Pentode

5847A

Improved 5847-family broad-band pentode with additional low-voltage operating characteristics intended to reduce gain variation. It retains the miniature high-gain wideband amplifier function while supporting more controlled operation under reduced supply conditions.

1964 Amperex JEDEC registration states 5847A identical to 5847 except additional low-voltage operating characteristics; 5847/404A original RCA reference establishes indirectly heated heater 6.3 V 0.3 A, nine-pin miniature, sharp-cutoff high-gain broadband pentode. Absolute maximum plate 200 V, screen 165 V, plate dissipation 3.3 W, screen dissipation 0.85 W and cathode current 40 mA. New 5847A operating table specifies plate 150 V and screen 150 V with cathode resistance 4 kΩ and transconductance 8500 µmhos (0.0085 S), already in section; alternative mode 3000 µmhos. Original 5847 at other conditions gives 12,500 µmhos, not to overwrite the 5847A low-voltage setting. Manufacturer publishes direct interelectrode capacitances; operating conditions intended to minimize gain change with supply voltage variations. Existing socket code retained pending canonical reconciliation.
